About Us

In the spring of 1990, Arun District Council gave the people of Aldwick the opportunity of having a say into what should happen to the Pound and the land to the north of it.

As a result, our Society was formed under Arun's Pocket Park Scheme, with the help of the Sussex Wildlife Trust and the BTCV.

In 1995 Aldwick Green was registered as a Village Green.

Our first work parties, which were spent clearing the undergrowth and rubbish away from what is now the Conservation Area, were such fun, along with hard work, that it became obvious that here was a good way of promoting community spirit.

Since then our work parties have laid paths, planted trees, hedges and wild flowers including daffodils, bluebells, crocus, aconites, and we have now created a snowdrop walk and a wildflower meadow. The addition of nest, bee, bat and ladybird boxes, has encouraged a wide variety of wildlife.

At the present time our efforts are concentrated on the monthly work parties and raising funds by holding social events such as coffee mornings. We have also introduced a range of cards, notelets, bookmarks, fridge magnets, and key rings which, together with our yearly calendars have proved very popular.

All the funds raised help towards the provision and upkeep of tools , together with the purchase of new trees, plants, hedging and bulbs.

If you would like to join the society, and possibly help with our work parties, please see the Membership page of this website.
